Council backs festive and Australia Day events

Christmas carols in Burrum Heads, a family fun day and cricket match in River Heads and an Australia Day community breakfast in Maryborough are among the events set to receive grants from Fraser Coast Regional Council this summer.

At its meeting today (Wednesday 15 October), Council approved more than $18,000 for 13 community groups through Council’s Festive Events and Australia Day grants programs.

Communities spokesman Cr Phil Truscott said the funding would support a wide range of activities that bring people together.

“From carols and Christmas markets to family fun days and community breakfasts, these events give residents and visitors a chance to connect, celebrate and enjoy local traditions,” Cr Truscott said.

“They showcase the dedication of our community groups and volunteers, whose efforts make the Fraser Coast such a welcoming place to live.”

Festive season events receiving support include:

  • Apex Club of Fraser Coast, Apex Santa Fair (Maryborough) – $2,000
  • Burrum Heads Christian Community, Carols by Candlelight – $960
  • Burrum Heads Bowls Club, Children’s Christmas Party – $2,000
  • Poona Community Progress Association, Poona Christmas Festival – $1,800
  • Maryborough City Progress Association, Mary Movie Nights (Christmas edition) – $1,519.19
  • Burrum District Community Centre Association, Howard Christmas Twilight Markets – $2,000
  • Boonooroo Progress Association, Boonooroo and Tuan Christmas in the Park – $1,999
  • Torbanlea State School P&C, End of Year Spectacular – $2,000

Australia Day events receiving support include:

  • Maroom Progress & Ratepayers Association, All Australians Celebrations – $500
  • Burgowan Bowls Club, Australia Day Family Carnival – $500
  • Rotary Club of Maryborough Sunrise, Community Breakfast and Games – $500
  • Poona Community Progress Association, Australia Day Event – $1,250
  • River Heads Progress Association, Family Fun Day & Cricket Match – $1,250
