Upgrades drive surge at Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre

Fraser Coast families and visitors flocked to local pools and WetSide during the recent school holidays, with almost triple the number of people visiting the upgraded Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre compared to the same period last year.
From 20 September to 6 October, the Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre welcomed 8,160 attendees, up from 3,282 last year.
WetSide Water Park drew 19,529 visitors, in line with last year, while the Maryborough Aquatic Centre recorded 1,540 visits, up from 1,327.
Mayor George Seymour said the strong result shows how the Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre upgrade is already paying off for the community.
“Families have been attending in big numbers, and the feedback has been fantastic,” he said.
“The new activity tower and wet play in the lagoon, the interactive splash pad for toddlers, and the better shade and lighting are also making a real difference for casual swimmers and swimming clubs.
“These centres help people stay active, connect with friends and family and make the most of our great Fraser Coast lifestyle.”
Cr Seymour thanked Council’s Aquatics team for their work during the busy period.
“Our staff worked hard to keep the centres safe, welcoming and fun right through the holidays,” he said.
“With summer approaching and the weather heating up, the teams are gearing up for a busy few months ahead.”
The $9.6 million redevelopment of the Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre was delivered in two stages and was supported by the Queensland Government’s Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program with a $3.557 million contribution.
