Statement on CEO transition
Council can confirm that Chief Executive Officer, Mr Ken Diehm, who has an employment contract with Council until 3 July 2026, has voluntarily decided to step down from the CEO position effective 24 November 2025.
This decision allows for the early appointment of a new CEO and supports the recruitment of several Director positions, ensuring a smooth and stable leadership transition.
After a comprehensive handover period with the incoming CEO, Mr Diehm will be redeployed to manage the completion of the new Hervey Bay Community Hub, including associated works and the transition of staff into the new building.
In this role, Mr Diehm will report directly to the incoming CEO and will not be involved in Council decision-making. His retention during this period has been welcomed by the incoming CEO as an important measure to maintain continuity and share organisational knowledge.
With Council also recruiting three new Directors, Mr Diehm’s experience will be invaluable in supporting the organisation through this transition.
Council considers Mr Diehm’s redeployment to be value for money. It removes the need for external consultants, has no budget impact, provides an effective handover to the incoming CEO, and ensures the Community Hub project continues smoothly.
Senior Council staff remuneration levels are publicly reported in Council’s Annual Report each year.
Council remains focused on maintaining strong leadership, delivering major projects, and ensuring value for money for the community during this transition period.
