Customer Service Centre in Adelaide Street, Maryrborough

Fraser Coast Regional Council has temporarily closed its Maryborough Customer Service Centre after dust from works being carried out by the building’s owner above the office was tested and found to contain asbestos.

CEO Ken Diehm said the safety and well-being of staff and the community is Council’s highest priority.

“Staff noticed dust entering the Customer Service Centre store room from the construction works in the building above,” he said.

“We arranged testing, and once the results confirmed asbestos, we closed the office and moved staff out so the space can be cleaned and cleared as safe.”

Mr Diehm said Council will set up a temporary pop-up Customer Service Centre at the Brolga Theatre in Maryborough from Tuesday (18 November) so residents can continue to access face-to-face support while the Adelaide Street centre is closed.

“Residents can still contact Council and pay rates online or at Australia Post, by calling 1300 79 49 29 or by visiting the Hervey Bay Customer Service Centre,” he said.

Updates will be shared on Council’s website and social media pages.
