If you are interested in lending your time to become connected to your community, Council has many opportunities for residents to become involved in volunteer work.

Community Environment Program

The Community Environment Program (CEP) provides opportunities for residents to actively participate in the 'on-ground' maintenance and management activities of bushland and open spaces in the Fraser Coast Regional Council area, as well as environmental awareness programs including events and education.

Friends of the Cemetery

Friends of the Cemetery volunteers work together to preserve our local cemeteries’ heritage values.

Participants are involved in monument cleaning, top dressing, weeding, plot numbering graves and assisting with garden maintenance.  The Friends of the Cemetery group aim to meet once a month on a Wednesday and Saturday.

Volunteers are provided with tools and materials to undergo the work.

Brolga Theatre

Brolga Theatre volunteers play an integral role in a patron’s theatre experience and are vital to the successful operation of the theatre.

Volunteers can assist by:

  • Working as Door Keepers or Ushers in the Auditorium
  • Welcoming and assisting guests as Foyer Attendants
  • Working as Coffee Bar or Liquor Bar Servers
  • Assisting in the Box Office with ticket sales and administrative activities

Friends of the Fraser Coast Libraries

The Friends of the Libraries is a group of dedicated volunteers who value their library service and enjoy helping their community.

Being a Friend of the Fraser Coast Libraries means you will meet other like-minded book lovers, be kept up to date with what is happening in the libraries and involved in library events and activities.

Gatakers Artspace and Story Bank

If you are interested in lending a helping hand at Gatakers Artspace or Story Bank interpretive centre in Maryborough, please complete a volunteer registration form or for further information contact the team on (07) 4190 5723.

Picnic in the park

The Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre has now taken over Christmas Picnic In the Park, Council is no longer involved in the organisation of this event.

Adoption Centre 

Fraser Coast Adoption Centre host a team of compassionate and animal focused volunteers. By joining us you will get to work with a great group of passionate and positive facility officers. To get involved you will need to be over 18-years-old and physically able to complete the duties.

Animal and Support Duties:
-    Dog walking
-    Dog bathing
-    Creating enrichment activities & treats for animals at the adoption centre
-    General maintenance, gardening & mowing
-    General cleaning (bedding, towels, blankets)

Times and days: 
Volunteers are welcome Monday to Friday 9am - 11am and 1pm - 4pm or Saturday 9am - 11am. We do ask for a regular commitment e.g. every Friday morning, as we plan daily tasks around volunteer attendance.
