100,000 Trees

Fraser Coast Regional Council is committed to ‘Building Better Communities’ by maintaining our unique natural environment and lifestyle.

Trees play an important role in the liveability of our region through heat mitigation, the provision of oxygen, absorption of carbon dioxide and improvements to air, water and soil quality. Additionally, they support wildlife species by providing food sources, habitat and refuge.

In 2019, Council made a commitment to plant 100,000 trees by 2030. Planting 100,000 trees will provide a vast array of environmental benefits and make our region a more attractive place to reside and visit.

Works being undertaken by Council to meet the 100,000 trees target include:

  • restoration projects,
  • community tree planting days,
  • capital works projects,
  • embellishments in parks,
  • the creation of urban forests,
  • infill planting to increase density and biodiversity,
  • rehabilitation of waterways,
  • coastal plantings
